I hope you all had a wonderful Valentines day- be you with your partner, working (like me), with friends or just having a chill day.
I believe that Valentines day is about taking the time to appreciate the people around you and do something just a little special for yourself or your loved ones. I don’t necessarily believe that couples need a day to appreciate one another and just like Matthew says “everyday is an anniversary” and so is Valentines. I use this day to focus on and appreciate the things I may take for granted. Valentines day after work I really wanted to spend some quality time with Matt and his parents (Yes we went to his parents for dinner on Valentines day) hence why there was no post where there would usually be.
The day after (yesterday) I did get a little dolled up as Matthew took me out for a gorgeous little lunch date, the first time we have physically been out to celebrate Valentines in three years- No technology permitted (I decided to leave my phone in the car). We were very happy to have missed the Valentines day crazy, the exact reason we avoid going out this particular day of the year.
I pulled out all the classic favourites and went for a really natural look this time as it was lunch but I’ll key you in on what I used.
I went with a Base of NARS Sheer Matte Foundation in Mont Blanc (its getting a little light for me, but I can just pull it off- I used pretty much the last of it and will probably purchase Sheer Glow soon). On my Face I used MAC Golden Bronzer and NARS Blush in Madly to add a little colour and glow.
On my eyes I used MAC matte eyeshadows in Omega and Charcoal Brown over the lid and in the crease (No surprises there) and then dolled it up with the shimmer Champagne from the Smashbox Photo Op Eyeshadow Trio pressed over Omega in the middle of my lid and also a dash smudged on the brow bone. I have featured some of my favourite brushes in the image above which I use daily for my eyeshadow looks- they are obviously from the Zoeva Rose Golden Complete Eye Set- these are 234 Smoky Shader, 227 Soft Definer, 231 Petit Crease and 322 Brow Line. I literally use these daily.
Lastly I smoothed my favourite MAC Cremesheen Lipstick, the perfect My Lips But Better shade, in Modesty. It was very natural, put together and classic- a look I love to pull off regularly (minus the shimmer). You can never go wrong with naturals. A red lip would have gone perfectly with this look also, I was very tempted to reach for my beloved Esteé Lauder Signature Lippy in Rich Red, but since I was eating I thought better of it. The products used here are very versatile and can be used for any look, not only for Valentines day, and please let me know what you think!
